For MMS Wedding AssociateS
Before you leave an event or maybe even through the wedding day, your couple or their family may have some questions for you. Below are the most frequently asked questions and how you should answer them. If something isn’t listed, let me know via email and we’ll address it together!
WEDDINGS
when do we get photos back after our wedding?
No more than 8 weeks and Meghan will connect with you the week after your wedding to give you an idea of what’s next.
Do you do sneak peeks for weddings?
At this time, we do not post any sneak peeks.
Can I get photos for thank you cards before the gallery is done?
Yes and no. If you really need them, we can make something happen, but accordingly to Emily Post, wedding thank yous should be sent out within three months of your wedding and with our turnaround rate being 8 weeks (at most), you’ll have plenty of time to design, order, print, and send out thank yous.
How much for extra coverage on the wedding day?
Pricing for that is $750 an hour or $325 for half an hour. Mention to the couple that we'll send that invoice after the wedding day for them to take care of before their premiere date.
How does an extra hour of coverage work?
Since couples pay before the wedding day, their invoice is completed. In the event they request you stay later, that’s fine, but do offer increments of 30minutes. They’ll be invoiced after the wedding and it’ll need to be taken care of before the release of photos. You and your team will also be paid for that extra time.
What if it rains on a wedding day?
If rain is in the forecast, I encourage associates to come up with a plan on their own and let your couple know your thoughts. Since poor weather makes people anxious, involve your client as much as you think would allow them to calm down as much as possible. A couple options for you to consider are:
Look for covered or indoor locations as backup.
Bring an umbrella (clear) for the couple.
Suggest to the bride that she buy umbrellas for their wedding party (sometimes you can return them back to amazon when you’re done).
Embrace the rain! Figure out how to work with the water and show them references of how bad ass rain photos are.
What do we do if we get tipped?
If you and/or the team gets tipped, WELL DONE! The tip is yours to keep. A couple things to keep in mind:
If they give you envelopes clearly marked what tip is for who, it doesn’t matter if the tips are the same/equal. The difference was intentional.
If they give you a lump sum, it is to be split 50/50 between you and the second photographer.
Typically, when our team is tipped, it’s at the end of the night, and most non-shooting assistants are sent home, so they’re not considered with splitting the tip, but be mindful if they’re present. If you’re not sure how to handle it, call/text Meghan or the associate can keep it and notify Meghan and she’ll handle it.
ENGAGEMENTS
How do we plan engagement sessions?
You get full creative freedom with engagement sessions. I have all couples do this exercise and, from there, you’ll be able to see what their style is and how you can make that happen. HAVE FUN with it!
Do you do sneak peeks for engagement sessions?
As this time, no.
When do we get our engagement photos back?
No more than three weeks after your session. If that changes, Meghan will contact them. If they have requests, tell them to email me.
can we add another outfit?
Yes and no. For most sessions, excluding styled engagement sessions, we suggest only one outfit so we can get the most photos out of our time together. Plus, by the time we have to pause to change, most couples are JUST starting to feel comfortable in front of the camera.
However, you can tell them to bring an extra outfit just incase you have time for it and to have them wear their favorite outfit first, OR they can keep the same outfit but bring accessories or layers to add variety (jacket, hat, scarf, shirt change for the guy, etc).
How far can we consider for engagement location?
Couples’ engagement photo location(s) should be within 30 miles of Troy, Ohio. Anything over that will result in a travel fee (.65 a mile round trip from 360 Valleyview Drive Troy OH). You can give them an estimate of the travel fee till I approve of it/do the final math.
If they’re interested in going somewhere over 120 miles that doesn’t require the need for you to get a hotel, it’s an additional $500.
If they’re interested in you joining them out of state, talk to me immediately and we’ll create a game plan together.
At the end of the planning, let me know if they qualified for a travel fee and what YOUR mileage was, round trip, for your session (if over 30 miles from your home).
What if it rains for engagement photos?
If there’s rain in the forecast, I encourage you to reschedule if it’s 50% or above of probability. If the couple doesn’t want to reschedule or hesitates to, here are some things to consider and mention to the couple:
We generally reschedule when cloud coverage and rain is above 50% because clients don’t often like the results. There is a limit to the amount of editing we can do while keeping the integrity of our studio’s style.
If we experience a downpour that forces us to end short in the middle of the shoot, the remaining shoot time will be lost (if the photographer has suggested rescheduling).
In the situation that there’s a pop up shower and neither the couple or photographer caught it on the forecast (or it surprises you), that remaining time will be rescheduled.
If the weather makes you reschedule the session when you’re en route (and it’s 30 miles or more outside of your home), the couple will have an additional travel fee for their reschedule session.
If the couple is okay with the rain and want to embrace it, bring an umbrella or two (clear preferred!) and enjoy. To make sure you can get the basic Four Core Poses, make sure there’s a space nearby that is indoor or covered if the session’s outdoor.
At any point if the rain is too strong to continue photos we can wait in our cars for it to pass. Any waiting time during the session cannot be rescheduled and will be lost.
It’s also VERY important to manage expectations with poor weather. Explain how the lack of light will make harsh shadows on faces, making them appear older (in a not good way), that rain affects hair in a way that we cannot touch up in post-production, and it can make the overall sessions stressful and not fun, which we’ll notice in the photos. Even if they have to reschedule/pay for hair and makeup appointments, it’s a better investment than having to pay for a whole new photo session.
Rain/poor weather is always tricky, so if you’re still not sure how to handle the situation, email Meghan.
