40-50% of marriages end in divorce
Let that fact sink in. Everyone wants to think their relationship is the exception to the woes and trials the marriage can bring.
This line from “The 5 Love Languages” made me realize the seriousness of marriage and preparing for it:
The average “in love” experience (or “honeymoon phase”) lasts two years…
our eyes are (then) opened and we see the warts of the other person.
Since I didn’t ever want to see my husband or he see me in such an unattractive way, my passion to explore marriage resources began. It wasn’t till three years after doing this for myself that I thought to connect it with the couples I photograph.
This is a space for you to bookmark for current or future needs. Marriage doesn’t have to be that hard and the resources below are some of which Tom and I have applied to our relationship to make it that much better.
Lastly, though I am not a professional, certified marriage counselor, many of these items came recommended by one.
Start with this book
This book is what started my interest in relational and marital related resources. Given to me as a gift, I have now bought nearly 100 copies to gift to clients, friends, and family because I believe it’s one of the easiest books to read with relatable stories and quick to apply take-a-ways.
What i’ve just finished
When beginning this book, I thought it’d be a waste of time because of how simple the message was. After the first couple of chapters, I realized that I have overcomplicated some areas in my marriage and this book was helping me see how much more simple it is to love my husband and communicate with him how I want to be loved. Also, don’t be fooled by the repetitiveness as unintentional. This allows yourself easier access to this info to apply day to day.
If you’re up for some tough love…
This book hit me where it hurt when it came to the mindset I have with my marriage and what I felt it was supposed to do. This book gave me a lot to think about when it comes to the struggles (big and small) that come with marriage and transformed the way I invite and lean on God.
Not a reader?
That’s cool. Here are some podcast episodes that I think are awesome!
