This is for all of the brides who have a sweet spot in their heart for their dad. I have to admit that Daddy/Daughter first looks make me a little teary eyed. For a lot of dads, this is when everything feels real and it hits him... “My baby girl is getting MARRIED!” These are precious moments to photograph and I highly encourage any daddy’s girl to make time in their timeline for this moment.

One thing to keep in mind when having a first look between dad and daughter is to make sure dad is on time. Be sure to tell your planner or mother to be sure he’s on site at least 10 minutes before the first look to be sure that the schedule is kept and you two can take your time together.

In the event that people are running late and the first look needs to be moved, we can always arrange a first look before you walk down the aisle. While your wedding party is being lined up, see if you can stay in a corner or stairwell, just you and dad to have a moment together and be prepared for your groom at the end of the aisle.

Remember that sometimes dads aren’t visibly emotional. And that’s okay! You can always give your dad a gift during this time to make it special or less odd if the waterworks don’t come like you were hoping. It’s always wise to have a letter or a couple words prepared incase there is some silence.

Lastly, this is a moment for you and dad, but sometimes mom, sisters, or friends want to watch. Have an idea if you want this to be open to others or more private before the big day. Communicate that with your planner or photographer to be sure that its carried out (and we’ll be the bad guy so you don’t have to be).

Past brides, did you have a first look with your dad? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section!
